Gay Marriage
Gay marriage has become a prominent issue in American politics and society in recent years. DADT (Don't Ask Don't Tell), states legalizing gay marriage (and those who did not) and legal challenges brought by the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) community have pushed this issue into the forefront. But as some would agree, the right of gays and lesbians to marry is an idea whose time has come. For years we've been sideling the issue of gay rights, with DADT, we told gays and lesbians in the military to hide who they are and not to openly discuss their relationships. Hundreds of men and women who have served our country well have been discharged from the military because the government doesn't approve of who they love. In churches across the country, it is preached that being gay is a sin, that homosexuality is something that people need to be "delivered" from. It is only in more recent years that experts no longer believe that homosexuality is a disease. Homosexuals were subject to shock therapy and treatments that we now consider inhumane in an effort to "cure" them of their "disease." I its place are now "ex-gay" ministries and organizations which claim to be able to turn gay individuals straight (or at least celibate). All these practices underscore the notion that if you are gay or lesbian, you're abnormal and therefore not worthy of the privileges awarded to the rest of society. If and when gays are granted the federal right to marry, this will provide gay and lesbian couples access to financial, tax and legal benefits currently only afforded to heterosexual married couples. So absolutely,...
Seo, who teaches at Yonsei University of Korea, created a homosexual student organization in 1995 called "Come Together." He states that "it would not be an overstatement to say that this was the first social movement through which homosesxuals could effect changes in their lives. The movement went beyond the ghettoized and marginalized locales, such as bars, theaters and saunas, where homosexual cultural and sexual activities were performed." After the
The traditional approach to sexual education in the United States has emphasized anatomy, physiology, and the mechanics of reproduction and birth control to the virtual exclusion of more meaningful aspects of human sexuality. A modern comprehensive sexual education program should begin before most students have already begun experimenting sexually rather than afterwards. Likewise, it should include appropriate focus on ethical values and moral concepts that relate directly to sexual patterns
Homosexual marriage does not pose a threat to me or my manhood therefore I am for it." Although I am heterosexual, I know what it means to long for union with another human being. I will choose a woman for my partner, but if another man desires to choose one of his own sex, there is no harm for me in his choice. In fact, since we are both
Gay Marriage Whether to allow same-sex marriage or not is a hotly debated topic in many Western countries at the present time. Belgium, Canada, Spain and the Netherlands have recently legalized it. Should same-sex couples, committed to a long-term monogamous relationship, be allowed to marry? Many people feel that the answer to this question should be a firm: No! The arguments they put forth against same-sex marriage usually include the following: marriage is
Gay Marriage be permitted in the United States Over the last several years, the issue of gay marriage has been increasingly brought to the forefront. Part of the reason for this, is because there has been a shift in social attitudes and beliefs about homosexuality within society. As, more people are supporting the idea that these individuals are entitled to the same constitutional protections as the rest of the general
Arguments Against Same-sex Marriage and Refutation of these Arguments There are approximately four arguments by which opponents of gay marriage routinely use in their attempts to deny gays and lesbians their equal rights under the law. Routinely, opponents of same-sex marriage rely upon faith-based religious arguments to demonstrate that the law and civilized society should not condone or sanction same-sex marriages. Secondly, they contend that legalization of same-sex marriage would weaken
